What We Believe
- We see God as a presence that is everywhere, not a person.
- We believe that everyone’s life is eternal and forever expanding. We call God by different names such as Spirit or First Cause to help eliminate the gender prejudice associated with God the Father, and to see more accurately that there is One Life back of everything that lives.
- We practice and teach people how to pray. We identify God’s power as a loving and perfect intelligence from which everything is created.
- We depend upon the goodness of God to internally guide and direct our actions with compassion, love and peace. We believe evil is ignorance and that people can act in an evil manner because of their ignorance.
- We do not, however, believe evil is inherent in anything or a power separate from God.
- We study the writings and lives of great spiritual thinkers and leaders such as Jesus, Moses, Emerson, Thoreau, Plato, Socrates, Aristotle, Buddha, Gandhi, Carl Jung, William James and more, in order to learn of Spirit’s unlimited power for good. We were founded by Dr. Ernest Holmes in the 1930’s. He based his work on the teachings of Jesus, Eastern Philosophy, and the above mentioned writers and leaders.
- We see similarities in our teaching with distinguished personalities such as Deepak Chopra, Joseph Campbell, Wayne Dyer, Maya Angelou, Oprah Winfrey and many others.
- We emphasize and believe God to be a Universal Power for good that we can use to live peaceful, productive and creative lives. We believe that all of life is sacred, eternal and divinely guided.
